Archive for August, 2000

Great headache this morning.. I didn’t went with Tom and Mark
to the Tesuque pueblo.. I missed that.

Barbara woked me up at 12:30, telling me that we’re all going to
the Horseman’s Haven, the “hottest chile in town”.. I’m scared.

Well, that was not so bad. The chile seems more mild that expected.

After this strange lunch, all the guys stayed in the pool, while I was
reading my email (what a nerd, boy..)

In the late afternoon, we finished watching the amazing Hitchcock’s
Psycho. Great film.

Discussed a little with Tom Tromey about free video/audio editing
tools available around.. we tried a bit to run BroadCast2000…
but we don’t like it. ScaringCode(tm).

Suddenly, a great news: a guy from HelixCode imported a GNOME
Video editing tool into the Gnome CVS!!! WOOOoo!! :)

After that, went with Mark and Barbara to Wal Mart (arg.. I really
don’t like this place), to buy something.. why there? the only
place open at 6pm on Sunday. After, visited Whole Foods Market
(mmmmmmm, ice cream…)

mmmmmm seems a really nerd night.. we grabbed “Monty Python
and the Holy Grail” for the n^m time, and watched it after
a small dinner. Barbara had _never_ _seen_ something from Monty
Python.. poor Barbara.

Obviously, the movie is great :) NI!

Went to bed at.. mmmm… dunno.

Woke up at 8am! Dude!!!

Today Ed with his wife are coming visiting for lunch. I’ve decided
with Barbara to make some hand-made gnocchi, so we visited Whole Foods
to buy potatoes and some, mmmmmm, gorgonzola cheese.

During the making of the gnocchi, we covered the whole kitchen with
flour, while Tom was looking at us, asking random question about
the receipt. I think that he’s interested about gnocchi.

Had lunch at 12:30. Everyone (phew) likes the gnocchi with
my gorgonzola sauce. I’m happy about this, since means that
I’m still a good kitchen-man.

Readed my email after lunch, and then swimmed a bit in the pool,
having this hot new mexican sun cooking me.

Played my drums a bit, I’m starting slowly to study again technique,
I’ve decided to finish my music degree the next year. I still
don’t know why I left the school two year ago. That was a really
bad decision.

In the late afternoon we all went to the Plaza, having some
concerts there and looking at dance show.

Had a nice conversation with Tom Tromey, talking about the recent
events in the free software world, about all those companies
entering in the community, and about his really nice project
about his open-movie on the free software world.

I’m tired, all the other guys are going to Tomasita’s for dinner, while
I’m here writing this ChangeLog, then I’ll go to bed.

Hacked all night on the next release of Gwsearch, basically
a complete rewrite of the tool. Nice mp3 listening in the office.

At 4am I went out for having a small walk and discovered that
my badge was not opening the office’s door anymore. Ouch!

I spent one hour waiting for someone to open the door for me. Then
I realized how to enter: I phoned Mark :)

Went at 12:00am to “Chile Works” for my usual breakfast burrito.

Worked all day, until 4:30pm.

Went home with Barbara since Mark took a different car to go back.

Once arrived, I found Tom Tromey at home, he was just arrived
from Colorando visiting us. What a news!! Tom is really a great
person.

Went for dinner at “The Shed” with Mark, Tom, Benjamin and Barbara.
Had a really good Green Chile Enchilada, then walked back home.

Just before bed, Mark arrived with a present for me, the book
“DocBook” from O’Reilly, written by the great Norman Walsh and
Leonard Muellner. Mark was a proofreader of the book. Thanks Mark!

Leaved at 7am with Mark, going to the lab. We’ve planned to
do a 48 hours tour-de-force working. Hope to survive :)

Started thinking about the protocol stack we need for the
obd user-land daemon, seems a nice, interesting and difficult
thing to implement. Phew.

After discussing on internal a huge Cc: base thread, we
all decided to leave at 7:15pm for the White Rock Overlook.
Seems that today is particular day for fireballs and falling stars.

Phew, a huge bunch of people! Hope to remember everyone: Mark,
Eric, Lars, Paul, Alicia, Barbara, Asama, Amel, Luca, Steven,
Catherine (our astronomical guru), Kevin, Cody, TheGuyWithNoName(tm),
Laurence.

The sky was clouded (sigh) since 1am, then we started to catch some
fireballs. Catherine says that the latest Nasa bulletin is
telling that 3am->5am is the best time range to catch nice fireballs.

Waiting for the clouds to go, Mark and me were playing guitars and
all the other (almost) were singing. Ranged from “Yoda”, to
“Sir Robin” (from Monty Python and the Holy Grail [NI!]) to
“Sono solo canzonette” by Edoardo Bennato.

Really nice evening with this interesting and smart people.

Arrived at the lab at 2:30 am with Mark and Barbara, where
we re-started working.

Woke up at 12am. Mark arrived with Bill, Alicia and
Barbara just before lunch, we all had a nice swim in the pool.

After dinner some random hacking, deleted some items from my
Todo folder e fixed some problems on the Florence LUG server DNS.

Chatted a bit with Rosalia at late night, then went to bed around
1am.

Back home at 5:30pm, and I went to bed… I’m really
suffering for my eyes, really don’t know what’s happening
to them. Mark woke me up at 7:30pm, he invited me for dinner
at his house.. he cooked a really, really good Green Chicken Curry,
hacker’s most wanted dish (GCC :) ).

Had lunch downtown with Alicia and Barbara in a nice
restaurant. I had some Grilled Snapper with pecans, Alicia and
Barbare were having huge burritos.

Arrived at the lab at 10:00am, readed some email and then
continued hacking on the OBD Filesystem, trying to port to a
2.2.x stable linux kernel and to the 2.4.0-test5 kernel.

I’ve really strange feelings about this stuff.
